“Could end badly” – Chris Sutton drops his ominous result prediction ahead of West Ham vs Wolves

Wolves face West Ham United in London this evening in a game dubbed ‘El Sackico’.

Gary O’Neil is on the verge of being sacked after two terrible defeats in the last two games against Bournemouth and Everton.

There was speculation that he would leave after the 4-0 defeat to Everton. But to almost everyone’s surprise, O’Neil was assigned the game against West Ham.

If the Wolves lose tonight, O’Neil will almost certainly be fired. A draw probably wouldn’t do him any good and even a win couldn’t save him.

His counterpart Julen Lopetegui is also under a lot of pressure and this game is really huge for both managers.

Literally anything could happen tonight and pundit Chris Sutton has given his pre-match outcome prediction.

Gary O’Neil has lost all four of his previous meetings with West Ham by an aggregate score of 11-1.

Given the huge pressure and the last few results, he will do very well to get all three points tonight.

But pundit Chris Sutton doesn’t expect that to happen and in fact expects West Ham to win the game 3-1, which would be a disastrous result for O’Neil if it came.

He told BBC Sport: “This could end badly for Gary O’Neil and Wolves and even if we don’t see the West Ham we expected from Lopetegui, he could still be struggling a day later.”

“The last time Wolves traveled to London at the end of November they beat Fulham 4-1 and had a lot of fun.

“I can’t imagine the same thing happening here though because they concede so many goals. The way they play under O’Neil is so open.

“West Ham will get some chances and although they missed a few against Leicester, I back them to take them this time.”

O’Neil on the edge

It wouldn’t be a surprise if O’Neil picked up a win tonight, which would then pose a real problem for Fosun.

At the moment it is believed that O’Neil is not the right man for the job and the Wolves have reportedly been looking for a replacement.

This just shows that they have lost trust in him.

There is an argument to be made that O’Neil should probably be fired even if the Wolves win tonight’s game. Solely because there is not enough evidence that he will lead the club out of the relegation zone.

He has failed to improve the team’s defense, although this situation is not entirely his fault. But he was also spared a few times by Matheus Cunha. As good as the Brazilian is, that’s just not sustainable for O’Neil.
