Raptors News: Kyrie Irving praises Scottie Barnes

Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors were back in action Saturday night, taking on Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks.

For Toronto, their defense was challenged. Doncic and Irving were a handful to deal with.

However, the Raptors made this win work for them as Barnes showed how talented he is as a playmaker. He totaled 14 assists, the highest of his career.

Overall, Barnes scored 19 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds. Since returning from his eye injury, the rising star has been at triple-double guard almost every night.

That’s what the organization is looking for in its franchise player. Getting other players going while remaining aggressive at the same time is a sight to behold.

Four other players reached double figures: Jakob Poeltl, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick and Kelly Olynyk.

After the game, Irving, via Toronto Star, had kind words for Barnes as he continues to grow and mature as a player:

“He’s just a real competitor. He’s been the same way since high school. You have to give him credit, he does all the little things. I think we’ll see him continue to develop into a greater guard.”

The stars are starting to take notice of Barnes’ game and that has to be a huge confidence boost for him.

Ultimately, the Raptors star must continue to produce performances like this.

Obviously there will be some bumps in the road as he learns, but Barnes appears to be taking the necessary steps as a no. 1 option.

Nikola Jokic praises Scottie Barnes

This isn’t the first time opposing stars have commented on Scottie Barnes. Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic also praised Barnes this season.
