These areas of Colorado will see the most snow on Monday

DENVER (KDVR) – A snowstorm is heading to Colorado. While Denver will only see a few flakes, other areas of the state could see more than half a foot of snow.

Despite sunny skies over Colorado this past weekend, the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking a storm that is expected to strengthen Monday afternoon.

Temperatures will be above freezing in Denver, so the metro may see just a few flakes with little to no accumulation on Monday evening. Other areas in the southern half of the state have better opportunities.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Interstate 25 south of Colorado City and the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains from midday Monday through early Tuesday morning. In places along I-25, 3 to 5 inches could be visible, but in places above 7,000 feet, up to 10 inches could be seen.

Only light snow is expected to fall in the Front Range, while some mountain towns like Aspen are expected to see up to four inches of snowfall.

The Pinpoint Weather team expects an inch of clearance between Interstate 70 and the Palmer Divide. So if you’re traveling in or out of the mountains on Monday, be aware of slippery roads and possible visibility issues.

Less than a foot of snow is expected to fall across the Front Range, but more snow could remain across the state.

Some areas could see up to 25 centimeters of snow by the end of the snowstorm Monday evening.

Here’s which areas could see the most snow:

  • Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains: 10 inches

  • Colorado Springs: 5 inches

Skies are clearing and snow will clear by the end of the day on Monday. For the rest of the week, skies will be sunny again and there is no longer any chance of snow in the forecast.
