It seems to be widely accepted that the Raiders are not good this season, but head coach Antonio Pierce called them “the worst team in football” during a press conference.

At 2-9, the Raiders have the worst record in the NFL along with the Giants and Jaguars, so it’s not all that surprising that Vegas is named the worst team.

What’s surprising is when it comes from the team’s own head coach.

Pierce discussed trying to change the narrative about the team on Prime Video ahead of the Black Friday game against the Chiefs.

“Let’s call it what it is: the best team in football versus the worst team in football,” Pierce said Wednesday. “Let’s change the narrative. Let’s go out there and make it a dogfight, let’s make it ugly, let’s make it rough.

“It’s Black Friday, let’s cause some chaos, let’s get back to Raider football and have some fun and some personality. “Let it go.”

The Raiders will have a tall order as they attempt to topple the 10-1 Chiefs the day after Thanksgiving.

They will have Aidan O’Connell at center for Friday’s game and his return comes just in time after Gardner Minshew was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone.

“We have a good feeling about Aidan. He was dialed in,” Pierce said, according to Pro Football Talk. “Obviously he was on IR the whole time, he attended all the meetings; He was very encouraging on the sidelines. He just has this laser eye focus. Great opportunity for him.”

O’Connell had usurped Minshew for the starting job in Week 6, but he left in Week 7 with a broken thumb.

“He acted like a starter. He acted like a starter even when he was on IR. He did that when he was a backup,” Pierce said. “He did a great job working with the players, both on the sidelines and in meeting rooms. He is the one who speaks up and speaks. You can just look into his eyes; Look at his behavior.”
