The Cowboys believe DeMarvion Overshown’s knee injury is serious

ARLINGTON, Texas – Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered a serious right knee injury in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Coach Mike McCarthy said “it’s serious” and “it’s not good,” with a source saying it’s believed Overshown suffered more than just a torn anterior cruciate ligament with 12:49 to play. He will undergo further tests on Tuesday to confirm the severity of the injury.

Overshown’s right leg was affected on a 2-yard run by Chase Brown in the fourth quarter. He remained on the field and was unable to move his leg before the medical team arrived to treat him. He immediately went to the locker room for further examination.

After the game, Micah Parsons was emotional.

“I cried,” he said. “It’s like my little brother, bro. He doesn’t deserve this either. He really doesn’t have it. Just understanding what he’s going to go through and being there for him physically and mentally. It’s just so challenging because…” I just don’t think the year he had was fair either.

Overshown, who entered the game as the Cowboys’ second-leading tackler, missed his rookie year in 2023 because of a torn ACL in his left knee that he suffered in a preseason game in Seattle.

“I think the whole team felt it because it didn’t look good,” McCarthy said. “It definitely hit a lot of guys.”

Rookie Marist Liufau replaced Overshown and recorded 1.5 sacks.

Another rookie, starting center Cooper Beebe, left the game at halftime due to a concussion.

Beebe initially returned in the second quarter after receiving a medical, but he was ruled out after another exam in the locker room at halftime. Beebe entered Monday having played 837 of 838 offensive snaps this season.

“When he came back (at halftime), they looked at him again and just felt like he had to be taken out of the game,” McCarthy said.

After Beebe, a third-round pick, went out, Brock Hoffman moved from right guard to center and TJ Bass came in at right guard.

The Cowboys’ only offensive lineman not to miss any time due to injury this season is right tackle Terence Steele. On Monday, the Cowboys placed Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin on injured reserve as he faces season-ending surgery on his right ankle on Thursday. Left guard Tyler Smith missed one game with a knee injury, while freshman Tyler Guyton was sidelined due to numerous injuries. Guyton was active against the Bengals, but the Cowboys started veteran Chuma Edoga at left tackle.

Beebe won the center job in training camp in a competition with Hoffman. Hoffman started the last three games at right-back while Martin was sidelined due to injury.
