ESPN’s Dick Vitale offers an important health update on the road to cancer freedom

ESPN’s Dick Vitale has provided an update on his health amid his ongoing battle with cancer.

On Thursday, Vitale said on Twitter that he will undergo a scan a week from today to determine whether he is cancer-free. With that he asked for prayers for another important moment in his recovery.

“Many are asking about my status – December 12th: I have a full body scan to determine if I am cancer free,” Vitale tweeted. “(Praying) for good news because I feel great but am very afraid of the test. I’m sure cancer patients know this feeling.”

Vitale posted something similar on Tuesday, with ESPN focusing some coverage on him in the middle of V-Week, which began Monday.

“I’m touched tonight watching this video from my friends @espn. I keep thinking about December 12th when I have to undergo a major exam to determine if I am cancer free after my last 30 radiation treatments,” Vitale wrote with several praying emojis. “If it were me, it would be my NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!”

Vitale has struggled with several health problems in recent years. These include cancers such as lymphoma and melanoma as well as problems with his voice with cancer of the vocal cords and vocal cord dysplasia.

Therefore, Vitale was unable to win many, if any, games throughout college basketball during this time.

Now all we have to do is wait and see what Vitale’s diagnosis looks like based on his results next week. However, he will continue to be remembered in the sport, especially during ESPN’s V-Week through December 15th.
