The trailer for “28 Years Later” shows a first look at Cillian Murphy’s sequel

Twenty-two years later, we take our first look at it 28 years later.

The first trailer for the sequel 28 days laterDanny Boyle and Alex Garland’s non-zombie zombie film arrived after Sony released a poster last week, followed by a cryptic SOS teaser.

Published in 2002, 28 days later Star future Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy as Jim, a bicycle courier who awakens from a coma to find that a highly contagious “rage virus” that causes aggression has led to the complete collapse of society. Boyle did not consider the now-classic film a zombie film, but he is credited with reinvigorating the subgenre at the time.

One of the sequel’s stars, Ralph Fiennes, previously revealed details about what to expect from the next film.

“The UK has had this terrible plague of infected people, violent, rabid people, with a few uninfected communities for 28 years,” Fiennes told IndieWire in October. “The focus is on a little boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English countryside. But of course the infected are hiding around them in forests, hills and forests. But He finds a doctor who is a man we might think is strange and strange, but who is actually a force for good.”

Fiennes plays this good doctor, and the film also stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Murphy, with the latter also returning as executive producer. 28 years later will be the first of a new trilogy and according to Fiennes, this and the next film have already been filmed.

“Time has healed nothing,” says the poster’s slogan ominously.

28 years laterDirected by Boyle and written by Garland, it will premiere in theaters on June 20, 2025. Watch the trailer above.
