At one point in the special, Foxx says that his 16-year-old daughter Anelise, whom he shares with his ex Kristin Grannis, helped him through a time in the hospital that was challenging for the actor.

“They said at one point, for the first 15 days, they thought they were going to lose me because my vitals were out of control,” Foxx recalled of his stay at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. “There was a period of 13 or 14 days where they said we need to keep him calm and we gave him all the medication they could. It’s not working, we have to keep him calm because his vitals are as high as we’re going to lose him.

Foxx then joked, “You know what’s the worst thing you can have in a hospital room when you’re trying to stay calm?” Black family members,” before adding, “Then a miracle happened, and that miracle worked on my youngest.” Daughter. The actor then emotionally welcomed Anelise to the stage with her guitar and the two shared a tearful hug before she began her performance.

“Play, play, play,” Foxx tearfully told his daughter. “Let them see your talent, shine Anelise, shine baby,” he added, while Anelise also wiped away tears at the end of her performance.

The father of two then turned to his youngest daughter and said to her tearfully: “Anelise, thank you so much for standing up when all was lost.”

“You had to do it because I always dreamed that one day we would be on stage together,” Anelise replied, before the pair performed a song about his medical emergency, with Foxx rapping and singing and Anelise playing guitar.

Corinne first confirmed her father’s “medical complications” in a statement in April 2023. The actor suffered the stroke while in Atlanta filming the Netflix film Back in action with Cameron Diaz.

In the comedy special, Foxx praises Corinne and her sister Deidra Dixon for how they handled his medical emergency.

“They held me,” Foxx said. “Nobody looks like him. They cut everything off. They didn’t want you to see me like that, and I didn’t want you to see me like that. I wanted you to see me like that.”

“There’s another reason why my daughter didn’t want no one to see me,” Foxx continued, adding, “I was so dizzy from the stroke that my head did this (makes a bobbing motion with his head) .”

“She said, ‘You completely incapacitated that mother,'” he joked.

The special was taped in October at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, which Foxx said was “just 1,100 feet” from Piedmont Hospital, where they “saved my life.” Foxx previously wrote on Instagram about his emotional experience while speaking on stage about his health scare: “My heart and soul are filled with nothing but pure joy” after he “had the opportunity to tell my side of the story.” he said.
