Joe Burrow is “confident” the Bengals “will do whatever it takes” to bring back Tee Higgins

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins is headed to free agency and may be one of the hottest players on the market: a big-play receiver who hasn’t been locked up by his team.

Unless the Bengals switch gears in the coming months.

After Monday night’s 27-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Joe Burrow expressed confidence that Cincinnati could keep Higgins while also signing Ja’Marr Chase.

“We don’t know. These discussions are ongoing. “I am confident that we will be able to do whatever is necessary to bring tea back,” Burrow said in the official transcript. “I know I will do everything to get him back. So that he can have these conversations; these will be off-season discussions. I think we’re excited about this opportunity.”

Burrow’s comments suggest he is willing to redo his deal to ensure the Bengals have enough cap space to retain both top-tier wideouts. Chase’s price continues to rise skyward. At this point, he’s poised to overtake Justin Jefferson for the highest-paid receiver award.

Meanwhile, Higgins would represent a rare top target who hit the open market in his prime in recent seasons. He is currently playing with the franchise tag ($21.816 million).

At the start of the season, it seemed like Higgins would finish out the year and then leave to get his payday – that was the Bengals’ approach (see: Jessie Bates). It would be a coup for the normally financially conservative Bengals to retain two receivers worth over $20 million, but Burrow’s confidence suggests it could be a possibility. The coming months could show how much appeal the franchise quarterback has in Cincinnati.
