Marilyn Manson drops defamation lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood | Marilyn Manson

Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has dropped her long-running defamation lawsuit against actor Evan Rachel Wood and agreed to pay her about $327,000 in legal fees, Deadline reported.

Wood had already identified Manson as her abuser in February 2021 and accused her former fiancé of sexual assault, psychological abuse, violence, coercion and intimidation.

The Westworld actress accused her former partner of “horrific” abuse on social media in 2021, as well as allegations of grooming her since she was a teenager. Other women made similar allegations following Wood’s public denunciation.

Manson denied the allegations, calling them “terrible distortions of reality,” and subsequently filed a lawsuit against Wood in March 2022, citing defamation and emotional distress.

“Marilyn Manson – real name Brian Warner – filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood as a publicity stunt designed to undermine the credibility of his numerous accusers and revive his faltering career. “But his attempt to silence and intimidate Ms. Wood failed,” a representative for Wood said in a statement obtained by Rolling Stone.

“As the trial court correctly found, Warner’s claims were without merit. Warner’s decision to permanently drop its lawsuit and pay Ms. Wood her full fee of nearly $327,000 only confirms this.”

A judge ruled against parts of Manson’s lawsuit in 2023 and ordered Manson to pay about $500,000 in legal fees. Manson appealed the decision, which now appears to have been unsuccessful following the dismissal of his case.

According to Deadline, court documents documenting the end of the legal battle and the agreement to pay Wood’s legal fees were signed by Manson yesterday.
