Bengals vs. Cowboys postgame recap

NOTES

Ja’Marr’s historic Monday evening

Ja’Marr Chase caught a swing pass from Joe Burrow on the first play from scrimmage, marking his 80th reception of the season. He became the first player in NFL history to record more than 80 catches, more than 1,000 receiving yards and more than seven receiving touchdowns in each of his first four career seasons.

On his game-winning touchdown catch late in the fourth period, Chase surpassed 5,000 career receiving yards. In his 58th regular season game, he tied former Saints receiver Michael Thomas to become the fifth-fastest player in league history to reach 5,000 receiving yards.

Chase’s final tally included 14 receptions for 177 yards and two scores. His 14 grabs were the second most in his career and the second most in a game in Bengals history.

Burrow joins the elite company

Burrow completed 33 of 44 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns with one interception, for a passer rating of 112.8. He became the sixth quarterback ever to throw for 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns in four consecutive games. The record for most consecutive games belongs to Steve Young, who achieved these numbers in five consecutive contests in 1998. Drew Brees (2011-12), Peyton Manning (2012), Aaron Rodgers (2012-13) and Patrick Mahomes (2018) are the other quarterbacks who have made it in four straight games.

“Chase’s career high brings the Bengals on board”

Burrow found Chase in the end zone on a second-and-goal play, giving Cincinnati its first points of the game with 2:45 left in the first quarter. It was Chase’s 14th touchdown of the season, extending his league-leading total and setting a new career high. He scored his career-high of 13 touchdowns in his rookie season in 2021.

Chase’s 14 receiving scores are also the second-most in a season in Bengals history, three fewer than Carl Pickens’ record of 17 touchdowns set in 1995.

The touchdown was also the 43rd of Chase’s career, surpassing former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (42) for the fourth-most touchdowns in a player’s first four seasons in NFL history. Only Hall of Famers Randy Moss (53), Randy Moss (49) and Bob Hayes (45) scored more touchdowns in their first four years.

Uno matches Cris

Chase surpassed 100 yards of the night with his ninth catch early in the third quarter. It was his 18th career game with over 100 receiving yards (fourth of the season), tying former receiver Cris Collinsworth for the fifth-most in Bengals history.

Chase finished the night with 14 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
