Jamie Foxx says his younger daughter saved his life while in a coma

Jamie Foxx brought his youngest daughter Anelise Bishop on stage to appear with him in his new Netflix special “What Had Happened Was…” in a touching moment that moved him to tears.

During the special, the Oscar winner spoke candidly about his mysterious medical emergency in 2023, explaining that he suffered a brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke and ultimately left him unconscious in a hospital for weeks.

“My vitals were so bad they were going to lose me. And then a miracle happened, and this miracle worked through my youngest daughter. She’s 14,” he said, referring to Anelise. According to Foxx’s Instagram, Anelise turned 16 in 2024.

“I didn’t want her to see me like that, but she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar. And she says, ‘I know what my father needs.'”

Foxx, 56, was silent for a few moments before continuing. He told the audience that she had been carrying her guitar with her at all times since she was 10 years old.

“And they said when she played, my vitals went down,” he said, noting that the changes “stunned” nurses. His daughter asked medical staff to remain quiet when they entered his room while she was playing.

Foxx concluded that her guitar had a spiritual quality.

“Do you know what I found out? “There was God in that guitar,” he said. “This is my spiritual defibrillator.”

Then his daughter took the stage with her guitar and they hugged while Foxx cried and the crowd cheered.

“When you think about getting older, you wonder what the hard times are. Who will be there? Who will actually be there? I don’t have to wonder about it anymore,” he said.

During the special, Anelise sat down and played the guitar while the “Collateral” star stood over her and repeatedly said “play” to her as the tears continued. He asked them to show people their talent.

“This is Anelise,” he said when she was finished. The audience applauded again.

“Thank you for standing up when all was lost,” he told her.

Anelise replied: “You had to do it because I always dreamed that one day we would be on stage together.”

The two then performed a spoken word performance together, which morphed into a song about Foxx’s suffering while images of them appeared on a screen behind them.

After they finished, Foxx took a few steps back to let Anelise take the spotlight. The crowd cheered as she bowed.

“I love you,” he told her.

“I love you too,” she said as she left the stage.
