Three Wisconsin transfer portal QBs to target as Tyler Van Dyke leaves town

After just one season with the Wisconsin Badgers football team, it looks like starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is already on his way to Madison. Breaking news came Monday that the veteran signal-caller was entering the transfer portal.

He came to town with high hopes of getting the Badgers back on track, but a torn ACL early in the season was heartbreaking for him. Head coach Luke Fickell said there was still a chance Van Dyke would return to the team as QB1 in 2025, but we now know that won’t be the case.

Once again, the Badgers themselves will be looking into the transfer portal to sign a new QB. Fickell can’t waste any time recruiting a new signal caller because these three playmakers are at the top of our list:

This is an obvious choice as Conner Weigman is ranked as the top transfer quarterback by 247Sports. Weigman is expected to receive a ton of offers this cycle, but Wisconsin can certainly convince him that he can start right away for one of the Big Ten’s most storied programs.

Shortly after his transfer decision was announced, Weigman was linked to several programs, including Wisconsin. Fickell needs to get on the horn with him as quickly as possible. Perhaps an official visit would be planned soon?

As you can see from this article, we want the Badgers to make a splash at quarterback. Can UNLV’s Matthew Sluka come into play here? There was a lot of drama surrounding Sluka earlier this year when he left the Rebels due to some NIL issues.

He is now looking for a new team. Before UNLV’s loss, Sluka threw for 318 yards and six touchdowns in three games. He has a bright future, but we’ll now have to wait and see where his next college stop will be.

One of the most electrifying QBs available will undoubtedly be Liberty’s Kaidon Salter. He had a fantastic year for Liberty, throwing for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 587 yards and seven more scores on the ground. He already plans to visit Syracuse, Colorado and Florida State.

Since Jeff Grimes will be taking on the role of offensive coordinator, he may want a dual-threat quarterback to play for him. Salter is that type of playmaker and could be a real standout for Wisconsin. There will be stiff competition for Salter, Sluka AND Wiegman, but it’s time for Fickell, Grimes and others to get to work recruiting.
