Snow, ice and the Grinch storm during the week will have widespread impacts across Maine

PORTLAND (WGME)— Some very active weather days are expected for Maine. Snow and ice will begin Monday evening and Tuesday, and a severe Grinch storm will have a major impact on the state on Wednesday.

SNOW: A round of snow is expected Monday evening into early Tuesday. 2-4 inches seems likely for most, although there may be some lower totals in York County and along the immediate coast.

ICE CREAM TUESDAY: Snowfall will transition to freezing drizzle overnight and continue off and on through Tuesday, with temperatures remaining below freezing.

Slippery rides and slick surfaces are expected throughout the day, with a winter weather advisory in effect until 4 p.m

GRINCH STORM: A severe storm is expected to arrive on Wednesday and may cause flooding and power outages in the state.

The storm will begin Wednesday morning, with the worst conditions occurring Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

RAIN/FLOODING: With temperatures expected to be mild in the 40s and 50s, almost all rain is expected across Maine.

1-3 inches of rain on top of copious snow in the mountains will likely result in flash flooding and river flooding in some areas. Road washouts will also be a problem.

WIND: Winds are expected to be quite strong on Wednesday evening and overnight, particularly along the coast. Power outages appear possible and may be widespread. Stay tuned as we continue to figure out where the strongest winds will occur and how strong they can be.

The wind and rain will ease late Wednesday evening, and Thursday will be sunny again with gusty winds and temperatures in the 30s.

The weather will remain colder but calm at the end of the week and into the weekend.
