Cold front sweeps across Arizona

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —Arizona is in for a sunny and cooler day. Look for a high temperature of 67 degrees in the valley, which is right on average for the second week of December in the valley.

A dry cold front is sweeping through the state, bringing gusty winds today, particularly in the lower Colorado River Valley and higher elevations of the state. Northerly winds could blow up to 40 miles per hour in places. Valley winds should lighten but still remain breezy at around 10 to 15 mph.

Temperatures are expected to drop behind the front. After a cooler day today, clear skies and lighter winds will ensure a cold start to Wednesday this evening. Valley neighborhoods will wake up tomorrow morning to temperatures in the mid 30s to lower 40s.

A freeze warning has been issued for portions of Pinal and Gila counties, including the communities of Globe, Maricopa and Casa Grande. The western communities of Parker and Blythe are also included. Temperatures could drop to over 20 to lower 30 degrees in these locations on Wednesday morning. Be sure to protect the 4 Ps – people, plants, pets and pipes.

Temperatures are expected to slowly weaken for the remainder of the week, rising to lows in the 40s in the Valley and highs in the 70s Wednesday through the weekend. No rain is expected for at least the next seven days.
