According to the report, Arik Gilbert will return to the transfer portal after the 2024 season

Arik Gilbert was once a top prospect with an impressive mix of size and athleticism. After several transfers and some off-field incidents, Gilbert remained out of the squad for the 2024 season.

He is now reportedly back in the transfer portal, according to On3 Sports. It will be interesting to see what suitors Gilbert can muster after he last appeared in a game against Georgia during the 2022 season.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 220 pounds, Gilbert was originally a 5-star recruit and the No. 5 player in the country in the 2020 recruiting class out of Marietta, Georgia. He spent his first season at LSU, where he recorded 35 catches for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Gilbert would enter the transfer portal and originally head to Florida in the 2021 transfer cycle. However, he would re-enter the portal and move to Georgia in the summer.

After not playing during the 2021 season, Gilbert saw very limited action for the Bulldogs in 2022. He recorded just two catches and one touchdown, both of which came in a win over Vanderbilt.

After the 2022 season, Gilbert returned to the portal and landed at Nebraska for the 2023 season. Unfortunately, due to transfer rules, he was not immediately eligible to play and later had some off-field problems.

In August 2023, Gilbert was arrested on burglary charges following a liquor and vape shooting incident in Nebraska. He was later arrested last September for a second incident, this time for burglary and obstruction in Lumpkin County, Georgia.

It will be interesting to see if any power conference program is willing to give Gilbert a chance at this point in his career.
