3 QUESTIONS

…um Mary

Angelina Jolie’s new biopic, Marycoming to Netflix tomorrow. I asked Yahoo Entertainment reporter Kelsey Weekman, who saw the film, what to expect from the buzzy film.

Jessica: What is this film about?

Kelsey: Good question. It is the third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s trilogy about powerful women of the 20th century. This is about Greek opera legend Maria Callas in her final days, struggling with drug-induced hallucinations and a fading voice as she looks back on her eventful life.

Jessica: Does Angelina Jolie actually sing in the film?

Kelsey: Yes! She underwent seven months of training to recreate the distinctive sound of calla lilies. In October, she said it was a rare role that required her to “give everything you’ve got.”

Jessica: Is it worth seeing?

Kelsey: I’m not particularly well versed in the world of opera, but Jolie is such a powerhouse at it and I was blown away by her performance. She’s getting Oscar buzz for this, and rightly so!

Go deeper: Here’s what Jolie said when she was surprised about singing opera.
