Arne Slot’s side have won five out of five so far and beat Real Madrid 2-0 at home in their last Champions League game, underlining their status as tournament favorites. Slots team is also rested afterwards Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Everton has been canceled due to Storm Darragh. Liverpool know that a win in this game could see them secure their place in the Champions League round of 16 as one of the top eight teams with two games to go. It will be interesting to see if Slot rests some of his key starters for this game ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Fulham on Saturday. Mohamed Salah has been in incredible form in recent weeks and looks unstoppable.

Girona are in a very different situation, but the Spanish minnows continue to punch above their weight in their first ever season in European competition. Girona is part of the City Football Group and has been very consistent in La Liga in recent seasons, finishing third last season to qualify for the Champions League. They got stuck in games and lost late at PSG as they have taken three points from their five games so far. They still have a chance of reaching the playoff round but also have plenty of players that you will be familiar with: Oriol Romeu, Paulo Gazzaniga, Daley Blind, Arnaut Danjuma, Donny van de Beek and Bryan Gil are all key players . Girona lost 3-0 at home to Real Madrid at the weekend but are in contention for a place in the top six of La Liga this season.

Girona team news, focus

Ukrainian winger Viktor Tsygankov is missing for Girona and that is a big blow as he is a key player in attack for the Spaniards. Elsewhere, expect Girona to feature many of their experienced heads, with Romeu, Blind and Van de Beek all likely to be in the starting XI. It will be a very special evening in Girona as the visit of mighty Liverpool FC will be seen as a celebration of how far they have come in recent years.

Liverpool team news, focus

Slot has been dealing with some injury issues, so having the weekend off was probably a good thing. Konate, Bradley and Tsimikas remain out, so a back four of Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk and Robertson will likely start. Slot has plenty of options in midfield and can provide some variety, while Chiesa and Jota could return soon, giving some strikers a bit of a break before the busy holiday period. The good news is that star goalkeeper Alisson is fit enough to be part of the squad, which is a huge improvement.

Missing: Kostas Tsimikas (foot), Ibrahima Konate (knee), Conor Bradley (thigh), Federico Chiesa (other), Diogo Jota (chest), Alexis Mac Allister (suspension)

Girona vs Liverpool prediction

This should be a routine win for Liverpool, but we’ve seen them struggle defensively in recent away games. Girona have nothing to lose and you would expect them to score. Girona 1-3 Liverpool.
