Thanksgiving Day 2024 NFL odds, picks and props Bears-Lions, Dolphins-Packers

There’s a lot to be thankful for as Thanksgiving approaches. While families and friends come together to give thanks while enjoying turkey and a fulfilling celebration, many sports fans will also be watching and betting on professional football. The Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys traditionally host NFL games on Thanksgiving Day, and since 2006, a third NFL game without a specific host team has been added to prime time. This year it’s the Green Bay Packers, and the NFL weather features snow showers, low temperatures of 20 degrees and wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour at Lambeau Field.

For sports bettors and bookmakers, the start of the Thanksgiving holiday season is also the busiest sports betting week of the year. College football fans are engaged and entertained during the biggest rivalry week of the year as teams push for the new 12-team playoffs, conference titles and bowl games.

Types of bets AAnd how to read the odds

Since 2010, leading online sportsbooks have reported that Thanksgiving favorites are 33-8 straight up (SU) and 23-18 against the spread (ATS).

Chicago in Detroit

The Lions (10-1) are the current favorite to win the NFC title and win the Super Bowl at odds of +300, or 3/1. The defense has suffered some significant injuries, but the Lions’ offense leads the NFL with an average of 32.7 points per game and tops the NFC with 394 yards per game. That includes 243 passing yards per game and 314 in the last three contests. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Detroit is the NFL’s No. 1 offensive line and has the highest touchdown drive percentage in the league. Detroit will likely enjoy the Bears as their opening game on Turkey Day, snapping their 7-game losing streak on Thanksgiving Day that includes three losses to the Bears.

Player props: Lions WR Jameson Williams may be the Lions’ No. 2 receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, but the explosive speedster averages 20.8 yards per reception and 10.2 yards after the catch, for a total of 608 receiving yards. He was most dynamic at home on the fast indoor track at Ford Field, with 121, 79, 80 and 124 receiving yards in four games this season. That’s what defines him over 50.5 receiving yards It’s worth aiming for, and an alternate yardage of 60+ yards (+132) and 70+ yards (+200) provides additional opportunities to benefit from the experience. Bears WR DJ Moore to get 6+ receptions (+124) is also a bet.

Miami in Green Bay

The Packers (8-3) have a solid berth in the NFC playoffs and have a head start on the team from South Florida, weather-wise. But the Miami Dolphins (5-6) are back in the AFC wild-card playoff picture with three straight wins and consecutive games with 34 points scored. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has lit up the Raiders and Patriots in the last two games with 28 and 29 completions for 288 and 317 passing yards, respectively, over 72% completions and a 7-0 TD-INT ratio. But our player target is the Dolphins’ versatile and talented running back De’Von Achane.

Player props: Dolphins RB De’Von Achane has carved out a significant role in the red zone for the Dolphins in both rushing and receiving. He’s a threat for touchdown points in this cold weather contest (-115), but keep an eye out for him on combined rushing and receiving yards (90.5) against a Packers defense that has been in the bottom 10 in yards per attempt allowed, EPA per game and success rate allowed in recent weeks. In last week’s game, the Packers had the worst rush defense in the NFL, according to Dr. Bob Sports emerges.
