Kill The Justice League ends with Deathstroke season

Say what you will with Concord comparisons, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League took 25 times as long, and even the “ending” here doesn’t permanently set it.

As expected, Rocksteady has announced that support for Suicide Squad will end following the release of the upcoming fourth season, which will introduce the eighth and final member of the expanded squad, the assassin DeathStroke.

This was addressed in a new blog post from Rocksteady, which laid it out rather matter-of-factly and without any sort of “goodbye” message. The last paragraph of the blog post is about the Season 4 Battle Pass. This reflects the fact that throughout the game’s entire existence, the game seemed to have no regard for any narratives and simply acted as if they didn’t exist. In the end, they might just keep doing this until it takes its last breath. This is what they said:

“With the addition of Deathstroke to the roster, the Suicide Squad’s crusade against Brainiac comes to an end. Season 4 ends with Episode 8, which is scheduled to release in January 2025 and will serve as the final season episode for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While Season 4, Episode 8 marks the final battle against Brainiac, all online features will still be available, so you can continue to enjoy co-op with friends as well as all previous seasonal/episodic content. You will also have the option to play the game via the new offline mode, which allows access to the main story campaign and all post-launch seasonal gameplay content without an internet connection.”

So the game ends, the servers don’t shut down and you can now play offline. I mean, that’s good. There’s nothing worse than completely destroying something people paid for, and I’m sure WB isn’t eager to issue refunds for content that’s no longer playable like Concord did since the game reportedly has already lost $200 million.

I have questions about Season 4 here, as this is supposedly the point where the not-really-dead Justice League makes Batman resurface, which leads to the question of whether Kevin Conroy has any more unheard lines or whether this storyline can actually attempt to do so Complete the storyline of this entire game with the countless Brainiacs left to kill. According to reports, Rocksteady may be working on a new Arkham game, but whether or not it becomes canon here alongside Suicide Squad, or if this all just gets relegated to an “Elseworld” story, which would be an easy way to write it off.

As one of the few looter-shooter journalists out there, I gave Suicide Squad more chances than most. But even I had to throw in the towel around the second season, as there was little point in dedicating so much time to a game that was now peaking at a few hundred players at a time. Nobody cared about the game, so nobody cared about the coverage. As much as Deathstroke has sounded like the coolest addition to the game since release, I probably won’t be coming back for more when it comes to him either.
