Sofronio Vasquez Reveals the Hardest Thing He Overcame on ‘The Voice’ (Exclusive)

Sofronio Vasquez, who is in the final five The voice, I never thought he would make it this far.

Now the contestant has the chance to take home a win, and he reflects on his experience on the show in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“The hardest thing I did on this journey was being away from my family,” Vasquez tells PEOPLE after the live show on Monday, December 9. “Being in the Philippines is really strange because we have a different music scene there.” ..they’re not looking for the big guys here.

Earlier in the season, Vasquez noted that the audience was looking for “souls.”

“This is what I have to overcome during this time. And I overcame it. I think I just thought, ‘Come on, Sofronio, make yourself comfortable. You have your voice, you have your heart. Just sing it,’” he says.

The best part of his experience was “the (Agree) family I have now.”

Whether you win or lose in the finale on Tuesday, December 10, Vasquez is sure he’ll “go back to the hotel and just celebrate.”

“We’re just going to celebrate that it was a very, very good run The voice and we really felt like we were loved by the production and no one was superior…we were all loved. (It’s) in America’s hands for tomorrow,” he says.

In the finale, Vasquez will share the stage with Michael Bublé for a duet. The performance tease that Agree The finalist says they “complement each other well.”

The final five competitors include Vasquez and Shye of Team Bublè, Jeremy Beloate of Team Snoop, Danny Joseph of Team Reba and Sydney Sterlace of Team Gwen.

Earlier this month, the 49-year-old Canadian crooner opened up to PEOPLE about his first season The voice and said he “never thought I would like a job so much.”

“I tried to have the greatest singers choose me and I promised them that if they chose me I would be there for them, I would help guide them, I would advocate for them, and I have I did,” he said.

The “Forever Now” singer added, “My artists Shye and Sofronio worked their asses off. They deserve it, they are incredibly talented and I think they are future stars, with or without this show.”

The voice The finale airs Tuesday, December 10 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Peacock.
