Alabama football’s Jalen Milroe wins the William V. Campbell Trophy

Alabama football quarterback Jalen Milroe won the William V. Campbell Trophy on Tuesday, the National Football Foundation announced. The award recognizes academic success and leadership as well as football achievements and comes with a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Milroe, a two-year captain for the Crimson Tide, became the second player in program history to win the Campbell. He joins former center Barrett Jones, who won in 2012.

The quarterback was one of 16 finalists for the award. Milroe completed his bachelor’s degree in December 2023 with a 3.52 GPA and will earn his master’s degree in December of this year, according to Alabama Athletics.

“Jalen Milroe has established himself as one of the best collegiate quarterbacks in the country and his pursuit of excellence has extended to the class where he has excelled at the highest level,” NFF Chairman Archie Manning said in a press release. “He embodies everything that the Campbell Trophy stands for and everything that is right about our great game, and we are thrilled to add his name to the esteemed list of Campbell Trophy winners.”

Milroe finished the 2024 regular season with 2,252 passing yards and 15 touchdowns through the air. He also contributed to the ground game, rushing for 719 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide.

The quarterback will be interviewed during the College Football Awards on ESPN on Thursday and will also appear during halftime of the national championship game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta. Milroe was also a finalist for the Maxwell, Walter Camp, Davey O’Brien and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards.

Milroe’s former Crimson Tide teammate, center Seth McLaughlin, who transferred to Ohio State after the 2023 season, was also a Campbell finalist.

Alabama’s 2024 season isn’t over yet, with an appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl still to come. Milroe, who could elect to enter the NFL Draft, has not indicated whether he will participate in the game.
