UTICA, NY – Tonight is the moment for Utica’s voice to shine as he goes for victory in the season finale of NBC’s “The Voice.”

Vasquez, who grew up in the Philippines, faced numerous challenges along the way.

Despite these difficulties, he remembers his childhood with joy and credits music with bringing joy to his family.

Vasquez eventually moved to Utica from the Philippines.

In his homeland he pursued a career as a dentist and received his doctorate before leaving.

When he arrived in the United States, he had to resume his career as a dentist in order to comply with American rules and regulations.

While working as a dental assistant in Utica, he auditioned for “The Voice.”

After impressing all four coaches in the singing competition, Vasquez made steady progress on the show, securing a spot in the top five contestants.

In last week’s episode, Vasquez had the opportunity to sing with Sting from The Police.

“Sting is a very good singer and he is very popular in the Philippines. So can you imagine me singing with him? I just acted cool on stage, but it was nerve-wracking,” he said. “He’s an icon.”

Vasquez practiced all weekend for the grand finale episode, including dress rehearsals, he said.

“I just feel blessed to be here and I’m so excited to be able to represent Utica and of course the Mohawk Valley and my country, the Philippines, in the finals for the first time,” Vasquez said.

The singer added that he was honored that the local community showed so much love on his journey to the singing competition.

The finale of The Voice airs tonight at 8pm, with the winner announced at a two-hour event tomorrow night.

“It’s such a blessing and I can’t wait to just be home and hopefully take home the trophy and tell everyone we did it,” he said.
