Representative Nancy Mace was allegedly attacked on Capitol Hill; Suspect in custody

A suspect is in custody after Rep. Nancy Mace, R-R-S.C., said she was “physically assaulted” on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday evening.

The United States Capitol Police have arrested James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois. He is accused of assaulting a government official.

Just before 6 p.m., the congressman’s office reported an incident at the Rayburn House Office Building. Police said officers from the House Division and agents from the Threat Assessment Unit tracked down the suspect. McIntyre was interviewed and subsequently arrested.

The building was open to the public at the time of the incident and Capitol Police said McIntyre underwent a security check before entering the building.

Rep. Mace confirmed the incident on her personal X account, writing, “I was physically attacked by a pro-Tr*ns man on Capitol grounds this evening.”

A new splint for my wrist and some ice for my arm and everything will heal well. Your violence and threats against my life will only double me. FAFO,” Mace wrote.

On Mace’s Rep. account, she claimed she was approached about her “fight to protect women.”

The congresswoman has been vocal about transgender bathroom policies in recent weeks after Deleware State Sen. Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Mace introduced a resolution banning transgender women from using the women’s restrooms at the U.S. Capitol.

Capitol Police have not released a motive for McIntyre’s alleged attack on Mace on Tuesday night.
