Parts of northern New England, particularly Maine, will see rain and snow into the night before conditions improve.

After this storm dissipates, the coldest air of the season will move across much of the country.

As the cold air flows over the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes, numerous snow warnings and winter storm warnings are in effect. This appears to be the first significant Lake Effect Snow event of the season.

The forecast calls for 3 to 4 feet of snow for parts of western New York State through Monday.

The heaviest bands of snow will likely remain south of Buffalo, but things could get interesting for the 49ers/Bills game on Sunday night if there is snow nearby.

The weather remains largely calm for the rest of the country this weekend, but a chilly forecast is forecast for dozens of states in the eastern half of the country as temperatures now feel much more in line with the upcoming winter season.

Warmer than normal temperatures are expected in the west in the first week of December.
