Wolves back manager Gary O’Neil for game against Ipswich despite losing | Wolverhampton Wanderers

Gary O’Neil will remain in charge of Wolves’ game against Ipswich on Saturday, with the club determined to give him the chance to turn things around. Fans are angry at a series of alarming results but the club have offered their immediate support to the head coach.

In recent weeks the club has been looking for potential successors, but having been unable to find a suitable alternative, they have decided to stand alongside O’Neil.

Wolves have lost three games in a row, with defeat at West Ham on Monday increasing the attention on O’Neil, who signed a new four-year contract in August. Wolves are four points from the final safe spot and have picked up two league wins this season. They host Ipswich before traveling to face another struggling side in Leicester the following weekend.

Wolves’ poor performance dates back to last season, with an abysmal record of three wins in their last 25 league games. The club are aware that they need reinforcements in January, with a centre-back a top priority.

The Wolves hierarchy are adamant that they have overcome difficult situations before and believe they have the tools to turn things around this time.

O’Neil said after the 2-1 defeat at West Ham: “Whenever this journey with Wolves ends, I will be proud of it. I’m really proud of the group and everything they’ve given me. I can only ask them to do their best. We won’t give up and keep pushing.”

It remains to be seen how the fans react to the decision at Molineux on Saturday. A section of Wolves fans turned on O’Neil after an embarrassing 5-3 defeat at Brentford, voicing their dissatisfaction with recent defeats.
