Walgreens announced a major change to its store hours

Thanksgiving is officially upon us, which means it’s time to start your usual holiday preparations. Still, there are some things you can’t prepare for, from an injury (looking at you, potato peeler) to the unexpected missing of a key dinner ingredient. In this case, you may be asking yourself the following question: Is Walgreens open on Thanksgiving 2024?

Unfortunately, you’ll most likely have to stock up on last-minute vacation gear elsewhere because Most Walgreens stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. In the past, Walgreens stores remained open on Thanksgiving, which falls on November 28 this year. However, since last year, the company decided to close most of its locations during the holidays itself to allow employees to take a break with their loved ones.

“This is just one of the ways we recognize the dedication of our store team members, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who tirelessly provide incredible service and patient care every day,” EVP and President of Walgreens Retail & Chief Customer Officer Tracey D. Brown said in a press release dated September 16th. “We received incredible feedback from team members about their Thanksgiving holiday last year and are excited to extend this tradition once again so they can take a well-deserved break.”

However, there Are some exceptions. According to Walgreens’ press release, 500 24-hour Walgreens stores, as well as the 300 pharmacies at those locations, will remain open on Thanksgiving Day. So if you need prescription refills or urgent advice from a pharmacist, you still have options! You can check to see if Walgreens stores near you will be open in some capacity on Thanksgiving by checking the official Walgreens store locator.

Walgreens locations will be open during regular business hours the day before, November 27th, and the next day, Black Friday, for all your health and everyday needs.
