Drone concerns: New Jersey officials hold special meetings with Regional Operations and Intelligence Center

Elected officials are drawing attention to the presence of hundreds of unidentified drones that have lit up the skies over New Jersey and Philadelphia.

“I’ve seen them, yeah, it’s kind of scary when you’re driving down the road at night and you see these lights in the sky coming towards you, you don’t know what it is,” said Ann Mcilhenny of Mount Laurel.

“If there was something up there that shouldn’t be up there, the F35, that

“F18s, multiple radars, missile silos, multiple military assets located in New Jersey alone, I don’t think they would survive in the sky for more than five seconds,” said Michael O’Neill of Medford Lakes.

A special briefing on drones was held Wednesday afternoon at the Regional Operations and Intelligence Center at New Jersey State Police Division headquarters.

Gov. Phil Murphy’s office told us he did not attend that meeting and that it was held by administration members for local elected officials.

Last week, Governor Murphy held a meeting with Homeland Security, State Police and the state’s congressional delegation.

The governor has mentioned in the past that there is currently no known threat to the public.

On Wednesday, New Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew sent a letter to President Biden calling for flight restrictions and ordering them to be lifted as quickly as possible.

This came after the congressman spoke on Fox News about where his senior sources said these drones may have come from.

“Do you know that Iran has made a deal with China to purchase drones, motherships and technology for the future. These drones should be shot down. Whether it was some crazy tinkerer that we can’t imagine or whether it’s Iran, I think it’s very likely.” “It could be that it was meant to be shot down,” said Congressman Van Drew.

Those in the Defense Ministry spoke out against these allegations.

“There is no truth to this, there is no Iranian ship off the coast of the United States and there is no so-called mother ship launching drones toward the United States,” said Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon’s deputy press secretary.

The FBI declined an interview but released the following statement:

“The FBI is aware of reports of sightings of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – commonly referred to as drones – observed in several locations in recent weeks. The FBI continues to work with our federal, state, local and tribal partners to share information and protect the public from UAVs that may pose a threat to aircraft or in restricted airspace or near critical infrastructure and others Sensitive locations observed should be reported to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI(1-800-225-5324) or online at Tips.fbi.gov.”
