ChatGPT unavailable for some users; iOS 18.2 integration affected

OpenAI has admitted that its popular AI chatbot ChatGPT is currently down, making the platform inaccessible to users around the world. This issue also impacted integration with Siri following the public release of iOS 18.2 on Wednesday.

Users complain that ChatGPT is down or not working as expected

According to OpenAI, the company has identified the cause of the outage and is actively working on a solution. Although the goal is to restore ChatGPT functionality as quickly as possible, no specific timeline for the resolution has been provided. Many users experience random error messages when trying to access the service. In some cases, users were even logged out of the app.

Today’s release of iOS 18.2 introduced new features for iPhone, iPad and Mac users, including improved integration with ChatGPT via Siri. This allows users to interact with OpenAI’s chatbot directly from the Siri interface. However, due to the current outage, this feature is not working for some users who have updated to the latest software.

Although OpenAI did not provide details about the outage, some speculate that today’s outage was caused by the large influx of iOS users playing with the new ChatGPT integration.

Notably, iOS users can interact with ChatGPT for free via Siri without needing an OpenAI account. Apple also allows users to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus directly from the Settings app on iOS, allowing them to benefit from paid features.
