OpenAI said Wednesday that it was working to resolve an outage after its popular ChatGPT assistant and Sora video generator became inaccessible.

“We have identified the issue and are working to introduce a solution,” OpenAI said in a post on X.

Earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company’s technology reaches 300 million active users every week. Earlier on Wednesday, Apple has released new versions of its software for iPhone, iPad and Mac that enable integrations with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT has been unavailable for over an hour and a half. An outage in June lasted over five hours.

OpenAI was valued at $157 billion in October in a funding round that included existing backers Microsoft as well as chip manufacturers Nvidia. The company’s rapid rise began with the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 and has been the biggest story in the tech industry in recent years.

On Monday, OpenAI announced that it would release Sora to people in the US and most other countries, but on Tuesday Altman wrote on X: “We significantly underestimated the demand for Sora; it will take a while for everyone to have access.”
