The heavy rain should ease overnight

As a storm moves across the Northeast, widespread rain will continue into the evening. The coast may experience heavy rainfall and southerly winds, reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour at times. The combination of warm temperatures, precipitation and winds will cause much of the snow from the coast to the foothills to melt completely. After midnight, a cold front will move through the region and temperatures will return to more typical December values. High pressure will return and continue into the weekend.
