The 32-year-old smiled as she appeared to joke that she was “too old for the life of a pop star” on a Wednesday episode of Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” which also featured “Lady Bird” star Saoirse Ronan. be.

In their conversation, Ronan praised Gomez for a solo she sings in the critically acclaimed musical thriller Emilia Pérez. This prompted the former Disney Channel star to say that she doesn’t view music as “a forever thing” in her career.

“I definitely think my strength is probably acting,” said Gomez, whose last studio album was released back in 2020.

While the two-time Grammy nominee noted that she’s “proud” of the stories she’s able to tell through her songs, she said, “I think I’m maybe a little too old for the pop star life.” But I “I’m really so happy to be in this new era of my life right now… because in many ways it’s just the beginning for me.”

Still, Gomez said she would “always have music in her life” due to her romantic relationship with producer Benny Blanco.

“I love… having moments where I can just do it for fun,” she continued. “It can be a little vulnerable when you put yourself out there on the street instead of empathizing with a character.”

Gomez’s character work has earned her a lot of recognition recently, with the star receiving multiple Golden Globe nominations on Monday.
