Barcelona’s Shark finally bites when Hansi Flick makes the perfect substitution in Dortmund

It was chaotic and chaotic at times, but it was also a game full of entertainment value.

A win against a Dortmund team that doesn’t make things easy for any opponent at Signal Iduna Park is nothing to sneeze at, and in fact it was their first home defeat in the Champions League since November 2021.

The manner in which Barca’s victory came about was also probably a surprise.

Ferran Torres has indulged in deception throughout his Barcelona career, rarely justifying his €55m price tag.

Maybe that’s the real problem for the Culers: they don’t believe the Spaniard is worth that kind of expense.

And yet, as he showed against Dortmund, he still has a good striker in him.

From his predatory instinct on his first goal to his lightning-quick finish on the second goal that won the game, it was goal-scoring and forward play of the highest quality.

It’s been a long time coming and it’s probably a little too late to save his Barca career, but his current form will certainly give Hansi Flick something to think about.

The German also deserves recognition for his crucial substitutions this evening.

With the game exciting and excellent to watch, it was still unlikely that the Catalans would return home with all three points.

Taking out Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo 20 minutes before the end of the game was a big gamble, but one that ultimately paid off.

Although Frenkie de Jong – once again – didn’t do much, Fermin Lopez was diligent and efficient, helping to score the first goal, and Ferran was a sure shot when he needed it.

Given that all players rely on confidence to perform, both on the bench and with the fan base, it will be interesting to see in the next few games whether Ferran can continue his current form.

Whether it’s luck or just excellent timing, the center forward may have earned a stay of execution, if only until the summer.

As the long, hard season takes its toll on Robert Lewandowski, finally being able to rely on Ferran is like having a new signing on site.

The only thing Flick needs to worry about, however, is why his defense is letting up so many goals lately and whether the top line needs to be modified in any way.
