I reluctantly voted for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in many of these categories, although I certainly did Love I think the expansion is largely better than the nominees it’s up against. However, I don’t think DLCs should be included in the Game Awards unless they belong in their own category. If it were up to me, Helldivers 2 would be in (and winning) Game of the Year, but Players’ Voice wouldn’t three Gacha games nominated (players were encouraged to vote for them by their developers with the promise of free currency in these games, which is pretty lame). Unfortunately it is like that not It’s up to me, so I’m sitting here. Salty.

Still, it’s nice to see the presentation and performances in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 get the recognition they deserve, and I hope Animal Well wins both indie awards, as it’s pretty mind-blowing that a solo developer has created such a deep Metroidvania. Kudos also to the Manor Lords in Best Sim/Best Strategy; It is another excellent project developed on my own.

Also, I really need to take a day or two to watch the second season of Arcane. Fallout probably wouldn’t be my choice for best adaptation if I had already done so, based on what I’ve heard. — Brendan Lowry, gaming contributor

“Oh man, @geoffkeighley was cooking.”

That’s a direct quote from none other than Windows Central editor-in-chief and Xbox fan Jez Corden. Jez posted this on X (Twitter) a few days ago, apparently after hearing about some of this year’s The Game Awards. He went on to say, “without any hard spoilers,” that he expects impressive multiplatform announcements and “other fun things,” but believes Microsoft and Xbox won’t have much to show since it has its own Developer Direct in the first quarter of 2025. Presentation will be given.

Sounds like we’re in for a good show this year. — Brendan Lowry, gaming contributor

The majority of what will be shown at The Game Awards 2024 will remain a mystery until the show begins, but that doesn’t mean we’re settling on it complete blind. In fact, the opposite is true, as many developers, as well as Geoff Keighley himself, have publicly announced several of the games, reveals, trailers and appearances that will appear during the event. These include the following:

Also note that several celebrities and developers will be presenting awards throughout the evening, including Bethesda’s Todd Howard, season two actress Isabela Merced of HBO’s The Last of Us, and prolific gaming voice actor Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad Laura Bailey and Remedy Entertainment Sam Lake and none other than Hideo Kojima himself.

If we find out anything else about the show before it starts, I’ll be sure to post it here. Still, I don’t expect we will, as there will definitely be a lot of surprises that the showrunners don’t want to reveal. — Brendan Lowry, gaming contributor

Where to watch the Game Awards 2024

The YouTube stream we embedded above is one While there’s no way to watch this year’s Game Awards show, it’s not the only one. The presentation will air on various platforms including:

Hello everyone and welcome to our live coverage of The Game Awards 2024! The show may still be a day away, but there’s already a lot to discuss ahead of its scheduled start time. There have been several teases about what to expect from the Game Awards and its partners from the presentation, which I’ll cover here shortly.

This year’s nominations are fiercely competitive, and there are also some notable controversies; For example, many are frustrated by the inclusion of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in the race, as it is ultimately still a DLC expansion, even if it is Is the size of a standalone game. As usual, there are also many fans who feel like their favorite game was left out of nominations for Game of the Year or other categories (that’s me with Helldivers 2, 100%).

Still, I hope it’s a great event, even if I still have a sour taste in my mouth because the Game Awards 2023 is failing developers and viewers alike because it’s more about advertising and trailers than it is about this year’s awards to actually celebrate the best and brightest titles. Fingers crossed! — Brendan Lowry, gaming contributor
