Many schools in West Michigan have canceled classes. Our full list of closures can be found here.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – West Michigan’s winter began with an arctic storm. After last week’s winter weather disrupted commuting and everyday life, we’re now in for another round of snow.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids issued winter storm warnings for many western Michigan counties beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday night. These warnings are set to last until 7pm on Thursday.

With freezing temperatures in the Great Lakes region, lake-effect snow showers are common near and west of US-131. The most persistent bands will continue to bring moderate to heavy snowfall, which will have local impacts on travel.

The lake effect will continue through Thursday morning, with lakeshore counties experiencing the greatest snow cover. Conditions will eventually improve Thursday afternoon as lake effect snow conditions ease. The last of the lake effect snow is expected to end Thursday evening.
