Look for a narrow band of snow to move into central Indiana after 2 p.m., bringing concentrated flurries. Smaller accumulations and slippery areas are possible.

INDIANA, USA – Another chance for snow this week!

It’s the coldest day of the week and another batch of snow will take advantage of the cold and move into parts of central Indiana in between 1-8 p.m

This snow will be very random as the band will likely be quite narrow. Instead of the scattered snow like we had on Wednesday, this snow could be a little more concentrated. The highest chance of snow appears to be north of Indianapolis.

Not every Hoosier will get snow today, but those within the narrow band of snow could see minor accumulation (less than 1 inch) and possible slippery roads.

Sometimes these smaller snow systems are the most difficult to predict.

Who has the highest chance of snow?

It’s hard to predict these thin bands of snow because if they move 20 miles north or south, they completely change who gets snow and who doesn’t.

We expect severe weather to be possible across central Indiana from Peru to Bloomington, but heavier snow showers will be possible especially north of downtown Indianapolis.

(Note: There may be minor changes to these snow zones to the north or south.)

  • Light blue: A slight thunderstorm is possible, the effects would be none or very small
  • Medium Blue: More concentrated snow showers, possible small accumulations and slick roads

We expect the narrow band of snow to be in north central Indiana. Look for intermittently heavier snow showers around Anderson, Carmel, Elwood, Fishers, Frankfort, Lafayette, Marion, Muncie, New Castle, Westfield and Zionsville.

The dashed blue line shows you the potential for how the snow band can move and cause impacts.

When will it snow?

There will be many Hoosiers who won’t get any snow today, but parts of central Indiana will have to watch out throughout the afternoon and evening.

Snow begins to cross the Illinois-Indiana border around midday. Scattered snow is expected from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m

Everything should be in Ohio after 10 p.m. and temperatures should stay steady in the low 20s throughout the night.

If there are wet spots on the road, expect refreezing Thursday night into Friday morning.
