Why is Hoda Kotb leaving the Today Show?

Tonight’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade may be Hoda Kotb’s final host. She announced her resignation in September Today Show in January 2025.

After celebrating her 60th birthday, Kotb shared, “I realized that at 60 it was time for me to turn the page and try something new.” She added that her daughters – Haley and Hope – and her mother “needs and deserves a larger chunk of my time.”

Last month, Kotb announced a new project in an interview with People. “I have something that I’m really excited about and it’s still in its infancy. It’s a holistic wellness situation and that has enlightened me just through the things I’ve worked on and done on myself. I learned through friends, through Jenna (Bush Hager), through Maria (Shriver), through all these different people, to do a lot of different things with breathing exercises and stuff, and I loved it.”

Kotb added that she’s “still in the early stages” of putting together a “really good wellness app and doing wellness retreats and things like that.”

She continued: “I think it would be, firstly, fun and secondly, helpful. When I learned some of these things, I thought, ‘Wait, why do I feel like my baseline is less stressed?’ Why do I feel like that?’ So I’ve been talking about this topic, and the more you get interested in it, the more you go down this path.”

No further details about Kotb’s new wellness business have been announced yet. In the meantime, she plans to become “part of the NBC family.” What that looks like remains to be seen.
