Donald was the first to announce that his youngest daughter was expecting a baby with husband Boulos during a campaign stop at the Detroit Economic Club in Michigan on October 10.

As Donald gave his speech at the event, he recognized several people in the audience, including his daughter’s father-in-law, Dr. Massad Boulos.

“He happens to be the father of Tiffany’s husband, Michael, who is an extraordinary young man,” the former president said. “And she is an extraordinary young woman. And she’s going to have a baby. So that’s nice.”

At the time, Tiffany had not spoken publicly about her pregnancy, but a rep for the former first daughter confirmed the news to PEOPLE.

Tiffany and Boulos, the son of a wealthy Lebanese family with businesses in Nigeria, married in November 2022 in Palm Beach, Florida, at the family’s Mar-a-Lago club.

The couple began dating in 2018 after meeting at Lindsay Lohan’s club in Mykonos, Greece. Then, in January 2021, at the end of her father’s term as president – and after the riots at the US Capitol – they got engaged and shared the news on social media the day before the former president left office.

According to a source, Boulos proposed in the White House Rose Garden with a $1.2 million diamond ring.

“It has been an honor to celebrate and create memories with my family here at the White House on many milestones, historic occasions, none more special than my engagement to my amazing fiancé Michael! I feel blessed and look forward to the next chapter!” Tiffany wrote on Instagram as she announced the news, adding a photo of her and Boulos smiling together on the White House grounds.

During Trump’s time in office, Tiffany largely stayed out of the public eye, often going months without seeing or speaking to her father.

“They have had a strained relationship throughout their lives, which was exacerbated by the presidency,” a source close to Tiffany told PEOPLE in 2018.
