Lawrence Taylor is excited about Bill Belichick’s UNC transfer

The most exciting Tar Heel in the country may be LT.

In a post on He “absolutely” liked the move.

“UNC stock just went up!!!” wrote Taylor, who earned All-American honors during his tenure at North Carolina and played under Bill Belichick from 1981 to 1990 when he was linebackers coach and defensive coordinator for the Giants, the duo that teamed for two Super Bowl titles.

Asked if he and Belichick had discussed how Belichick had been thinking about the job, Taylor replied: “That’s all we’ve done for the last few days.”

In a second post just minutes later, Myers expressed surprise that Belichick would move on to the college game, as he was within touching distance of overtaking Don Shula as the winningest head coach in NFL history.

“It has nothing to do with that,” Taylor replied.

As head coach of the Tar Heels, Belichick will take over the vacant position left by Mack Brown, who was told by university officials less than two weeks ago that he would not be returning beyond the 2024 season, and in ugly fashion.

Those are big shoes to fill — Brown is the winningest head coach in Tar Heel football history and is considered one of, if not the program’s, most revered coaches.

Success is not guaranteed for Belichick, although the ex-NFL player certainly has the skills to challenge Brown’s record and honors.

In 29 seasons as coach of the Cleveland Browns and then the New England Patriots, Belichick posted a 302-165 regular-season record (.647 winning percentage) and a 31-13 postseason record (.705 winning percentage).

His 31 playoff victories are the most of any head coach in NFL history, as are his six Super Bowl titles. Belichick currently sits third on the all-time wins list behind Shula (328) and George Halas (318).

In addition to his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson, Belichick is bringing his longtime pal and former NFL manager Michael Lombardi to Chapel Hill.

Lombardi will become general manager of the University of North Carolina football program.
