The Lakers may cut their ties to the $109 million father-son duo through a trade with the Mavericks

The Los Angeles Lakers’ season outlook has changed drastically after losing seven of their last ten games.

Surprisingly, the Lakers could trade a father-son duo to the Dallas Mavericks and officially close their title window.

“Since starting the season 10-4, the Lakers have steadily declined, going 3-7 in their last 10 games,” wrote Sean Deveney of Athlon Sports on Wednesday.

“There are a lot of problems with the team, but the fact that they are headed for another season again with wins in the mid-40s, with a likely playoff spot and an impending first-round exit, has one “The franchise has created a new specter.”

“The possibility that LeBron James will seek a trade and, with his 40th birthday just weeks away, finish his career elsewhere.”

“To be clear, this is a long shot. Firstly, James has not indicated that he wants to exit, which would be a requirement of any deal.”

“Second, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss is a supporter of her father’s policy of not giving away superstars, even resenting them.”

“And finally, there is the NBA’s current collective bargaining system, which is rife with hard caps that make big deals difficult.”

“James has had his eye on playing for the Mavericks for a long time and teaming up with Luka Doncic-Kyrie Irving is an enticing idea.”

“But the Mavericks will struggle to match the higher salaries if they want to make a trade this winter because their payroll is dominated by Doncic and Kyrie Irving. In order to trade for James, they would have to reduce their frontcourt depth.”

Deveney’s proposed trade would send LeBron and Bronny James to the Mavericks for PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber, Naji Marshall and a 2027 first-round pick.

Playing an important role in the 22nd class while fighting for team success can be stressful, which explains why James is retiring from the franchise for personal reasons.

The four-time NBA champion and multi-dimensional offensive threat is averaging 23 points, 9.1 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game with the Lakers this season.

James’ son Bronny commutes between the NBA and the G League. The USC product should prove that he can develop into a true NBA player and compete in the big leagues.

The Lakers may be a dysfunctional organization, but it’s hard to imagine Los Angeles sending the James clan to Dallas any time soon.
