Morgan Wallen sentenced to seven days in prison for chair throwing incident | country

Country star Morgan Wallen pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of reckless endangerment for throwing a chair from the roof of a six-story bar in Nashville, nearly hitting two police officers.

Wallen, who appeared in court with his attorney, was sentenced to seven days in a DUI training center and two years of supervised probation.

The singer pleaded “conditionally guilty” before Judge Cynthia Chappell, meaning that “upon successful completion of his probation, the charges may be dismissed and expunged,” according to his attorney Worrick Robinson.

According to the affidavit, Wallen was accused of throwing a chair from the roof of Chief’s Bar on April 7. The chair landed about three feet away from officers, who were speaking to witnesses and reviewing security footage. Witnesses told officers they saw Wallen pick up a chair, throw it off the roof and laugh about it.

Shortly after the incident, Wallen issued a statement saying he took “responsibility” and was “not proud” of his behavior. The statement did not include an apology, but did mention “reparations” and contact with law enforcement.

The “One Thing at a Time” singer was initially charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Robinson, Wallen’s attorney, said in a statement that the singer “has cooperated fully with authorities over the past eight months, communicating directly with and apologizing to all those involved.”

Wallen did not comment after Thursday’s brief 10-minute hearing. Instead, he was quickly escorted by several security guards.

Wallen is one of the biggest names in contemporary country and was named Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards last month.

In 2021, Wallen was indefinitely suspended from his label after a video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur. In 2020, he was arrested for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after being kicked out of Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville.
