Harrison Ford says playing Red Hulk in the MCU wasn’t “terribly difficult.”

Harrison Ford says he plays Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk in Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World was not a “terribly difficult acting project.”

“Captain America: Brave New World” opens in US cinemas in February 2025. The fourth film in Marvel Studios’ Captain America series stars Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, while Ford plays Ross, a character previously played by Willian Hurt, who passed away in 2022.

What did Harrison Ford say about playing Red Hulk in Captain America 4?

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Ford said that playing Red Hulk in Captain America 4 didn’t require any special dedication and was just “just another day at the office.”

He continued: “I tried to understand the ambitions of filmmakers and be useful to them. I just didn’t sit at home at night and say, ‘Oh, what do I want to do if I turn into the Hulk?’ It didn’t seem like a particularly difficult acting endeavor.”

Ford said he was “a little worried” about taking over the role for Hurt. He further commented, “I was ambitious to find the right way to take on this character after the audience saw other people do it. I have little familiarity with the Marvel Universe – I live in a different universe – but I have seen a number of Marvel films with wonderful actors and seemed to have a good time. And I thought, ‘Why not me?’”

Director Julius Onah, meanwhile, praised Ford’s performance in the film, calling his portrayal of Red Hulk “stunning.”

“All of us on set were like, ‘Holy shit, he did it,'” Onah said. “It’s really great to go back to a Hulk who just destroys shit and is a rage monster.”

Captain America: Brave New World will be released on February 14, 2025 as part of the fifth phase of the MCU.
