LeBron James and Jon Jones target fearful UFC presser Colby Covington

In case there was any doubt about who the true “King of Cringe” in MMA is, Colby Covington reminded fans on Wednesday that he still holds that title.

Covington, who headlines UFC on ESPN 63 against Joaquin Buckley on Saturday, attended a media day for the first time since losing his third undisputed title fight nearly a year ago and immediately attacked NBA star LeBron James.

Why? Because back in September, a video from four years ago resurfaced with James and the disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, in which James says: “No party is like a Diddy party.” The clip from An Instagram live stream resurfaced shortly after Combs was indicted and arrested on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Combs is currently in prison awaiting trial after numerous women accused him of sexually assaulting them, including at his now infamous “white parties.”

Armed with this information, No. 1 Donald Trump supporter Covington, who has pursued James in the past for his left-leaning political views and stance against police brutality, opened his UFC on ESPN 63 media day by pursuing him again.

“I’ll start with this because I’m the man of the hour, the man of the show,” Covington told MMA Junkie and other reporters, no questions asked. “I want to ask LeBron: What does he mean by ‘There’s no party like a Diddy party?'” I really want to know. Not only that, LeBron, how many Diddy parties have you actually been to? I’m really curious. Is this why you quit social media? Because of all the backlash you got for going to so many Diddy parties? It’s just pathetic, man.

“People think this guy is a role model. He wants to defund the police, the most patriotic people in America who serve and protect our country. Lebron, you’re a fucking scumbag and I hope you get locked up in the same cell as Diddy.”

This was just the beginning.

For the next 20-plus minutes, Covington talked about Shavkat Rakhmonov, Khamzat Chimaev and Ian Machado Garry and made even more suggestive comments about Machado Garry’s wife. To his credit, Covington spoke largely respectfully of his opponent, Buckley, when discussing Saturday’s headliner.

Perhaps the most shocking of Covington’s diatribes came at the end when he was asked what he thought of Jon Jones’ performance in his UFC 309 victory over Stipe Miocic and defense of his heavyweight title. Instead of answering the question, Covington took the opportunity to take an unexpected tack regarding his former college roommate.

“Jon has some fruity tendencies. I think the media needs to look at some of the fruitful things he is doing. It’s very strange,” Covington said. “But I can tell you that I know he’s been with a few women because I remember in college he always had the fattest girls in school. I’m talking over 300 pounds. Dude, deep down he knows this isn’t a joke. He knows deep down I know his dark, hidden secrets lurking in his closet. He dated some of the fattest, 300 pound guys. It’s disgusting. Dude, Jon Jones is an absolute disgrace to this earth. He’s a fucking joke.”

Covington then addressed the question before concluding with another aside, blasting Jones for his 2021 arrest for allegedly attacking his fiancée in a Las Vegas hotel room.

“Yeah, he beat Stipe,” he continued. “First of all, I have respect for Stipe because he is a first responder and puts his life on the line for people and his community. Kudos to Stipe, the greatest heavyweight of all time, but he was beyond his time. He wasn’t supposed to be there, man. He knows he was old. He just came for his paycheck. This is no longer the Stipe he was back in his prime. I don’t think this achievement is anything special.

“I think Jon needs to stop ducking Tom Aspinall, just like he ducked Ngannou. A few years ago he ducked Ngannou, now he ducks Aspinall. He doesn’t want to fight the guys he knows are going to kick his ass, so I don’t think much of Jon Jones.

“He’s a fucking coward, he’s a cheater and he’s a wife beater. He needs to stop beating his wife and leaving her covered in blood in hotel rooms in Las Vegas.”
