STALKER 2 makes GameSpot’s top 10 best games of 2024, Japanese RPG wins

The GameSpot editorial team has chosen the ten best games of 2024 and named their own “Game of the Year”.

Gamespot named the Japanese RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio the best game of 2024. Atlus was recognized for its deep story with unpredictable twists, detailed characters and exquisite art style.

The editors emphasized the game’s relevance in the context of modern challenges:

“In 2024 – a year of political unrest, growing inequality, fear and discord – no game seems more relevant and important,” Gamespot journalists noted.

Separately, the publication presented the ten best games of 2024 without specifying the locations: Astro Bot, Balatro, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Helldivers 2, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Silent Hill 2 and STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

The Gamespot reviewer emphasized the uniqueness of STALKER 2 among the game projects of 2024:

“The circumstances in which STALKER 2 was created have no bearing on its place in our top ten, but they do provide important context for understanding the game, its themes, and how it serves as a cultural touchpoint that connects Ukraine and, in particular, the represents people.” who created it. It’s a game about survival on the edge of possibility, where everything in the zone is a threat – anomalies, mutants or humans themselves. Yet humanity shines through it all.
