Ella Purnell is worried about being labeled “the video game girl” after Fallout and Arcane

Ella Purnell has had success with video game adaptations and isn’t sure that’s a good thing. You may know the actress as the voice of Jinx in Arcane. She also plays Lucy MacLean in Fallout. However, her habit of starring in video game adaptations has Purnell worried that she would become known as a video game girl. There’s some irony in that because Purnell admits she doesn’t play many games.

Ella Purnell spoke to an audience at MCM x EGX 2024 about her place in video game culture. “Here’s the truth, and I feel guilty saying this, but I’m not a gamer and I don’t know how I managed to get two video game adaptations that were both good. I don’t know how that happened, but it did. I don’t know the answer.”

While Purnell loves her roles in Arcane and Fallout, she fears this could set a pattern.

“Actually, I think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now because I get pigeonholed. I’ll be the video game girl. There are probably worse things than that.”

You can watch our hour-long interview with Purnell, which took place as a panel at MCM x EGX 2024, here.

Fallout is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, and Arcane is streaming on Netflix.
