PLANNING THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Although it will be very cold and clear skies tonight, wind chill values will be close to the actual air temperature of 0 as the wind will be light. It will still be cold in the low 20s on Friday, with some clouds moving in later in the day. Early low temperatures are expected to be around 20C on Friday evening before rising overnight as clouds increase ahead of the wintry weather system we have been talking about for a few days. There is currently a slight chance of snow showers mixed with some freezing rain reaching far southwestern Wisconsin, particularly areas closer to the Mississippi River, by daybreak Saturday.

BOTTOM LINE - BR - ALERT DAY.png

ADVANCED FORECAST: The weather system will bring a mix of light snow and some freezing rain Saturday morning before rain sets in Saturday afternoon. The best chances for a mix will be in areas north and west of Madison, although precipitation may have difficulty reaching the ground at first due to the dry air resulting from our recent arctic blast. The First Warn Weather Team will be keeping a close eye on the possibility of ALERT DAY conditions Saturday morning for the possibility of very light icing that could cause slippery patches, particularly in southwest Wisconsin. Even if rain mixes in, the cold pavement temperatures from several days of bitterly cold temperatures can still cause some slippery patches to form on untreated or less traveled roads. By Sunday, high temperatures will rise to near 40 degrees, with another system increasing the chance of rain again on Sunday and Monday. The rest of next week looks seasonally cold, with a few snow showers possible next Wednesday and Thursday.
