Thursday Night Football: The Rams do enough to beat the 49ers 12-6

The Rams gained 457 yards and scored 44 points in a win over the Bills on Sunday. They had 302 yards and 12 scores on Thursday night.

A win is a win is a win. . . .

Los Angeles beat San Francisco 12-6, while the Rams moved to 8-6 with their third straight win. The 49ers fell to 6-8.

On a rainy night in Northern California, the teams combined for 13 punts and six field goals.

Rookie kicker Joshua Karty hit field goals of 48, 23, 27 and 29 as the Rams took a 3-0 lead in the red zone.

San Francisco will lament its missed opportunities.

The 49ers dropped two interceptions early. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel dropped a sure first down and likely 29-yard touchdown on third-and-10 in the third quarter, and the 49ers settled for a 47-yard field goal from Jake Moody.

Samuel, who had complained on social media about not getting the ball, was booed by 49ers fans. He finished the game with two runs for 3 yards and three catches on seven targets for 16 yards.

The 49ers trailed 9-6 with 5:20 left and had the ball at the Los Angeles 33 when Brock Purdy tried to hit Jauan Jennings for a touchdown. Instead, cornerback Darious Williams intercepted Purdy.

The Rams used 4:56 of the final 5:14, although Samuel’s 41-yard kickoff return and a horse-collar penalty on cornerback Charles Woods gave the 49ers the ball at midfield with 11 seconds left. However, Purdy threw incomplete and then took a sack on an attempt intended to be a Hail Mary.

The Rams gained 108 yards on 29 carries from running back Kyren Williams, and receiver Puka Nacua caught seven passes for 97 yards. Matthew Stafford was 16 of 27 for 160 yards.

The 49ers gained just 191 yards.

Purdy was 14 of 31 for 142 yards and an interception, George Kittle caught four for 61 yards. Isaac Guerendo had 16 carries for 57 yards.
