TRACKING: Wintry mix from Friday evening to Saturday morning | forecast

Tonight: This evening clouds and thunderstorms will move in from north to south. The sky is clear most of the night. It’s a cold night, but at least the wind is very light. Lows: 0-8. Wind: NE 5 mph. Wind chill: -5 to 5.

Friday: Mostly cloudy and not that cold. The wind will increase as the afternoon progresses. Temperatures range between 21 and 26 °C in the late afternoon. Wind: SE 10-15 mph. Wind chill: 5-15.

STORM TRACK 7 YELLOW ALERT DAY for a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow Friday night into Saturday morning. Icy surfaces are expected from Friday evening to Saturday morning.

Friday evening: The wintry mix sets in around 10 and 11 p.m. and continues throughout the night. Ice accumulation is expected to reach a glaze of up to 0.10 inches. There is a chance of light snow accumulating to about an inch north of Waverly. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 20s C in the evening, warming up to 30 C at sunrise.

Saturday: In the late morning and early afternoon temperatures will slowly rise above freezing. This will change the winter mix to more rain in the south and more rain/snow mix in the north. It also helps melt any ice that may have formed. In the afternoon temperatures warm up by a few degrees (32-37). Winds will be from the southeast at 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, dropping wind chills into the upper 20s.

Saturday evening: The temperatures are constantly between 32 and 37 °C. The rain and snow mix will last until around midnight. There is a chance of snow across northern Iowa. Winds will be from the south at 5-15 miles per hour.

Sunday: It will continue to be cloudy throughout the day, with maximum temperatures of 40°C and a light southerly wind blowing.
