Odell Beckham Jr. parts ways with the Dolphins and tries to salvage a lost season

Odell Beckham Jr. took his talents to Miami – and it didn’t work out.

Beckham and the Dolphins parted ways before the team’s Week 15 road game against the Texans, Miami announced Friday morning.

According to NFL Network, the decision was mutual as the former Giants star receiver was looking for a better chance to contribute.

Should he clear waivers, he can sign with any team next week.

“No matter what’s wrong with me, I’ll always land on my feet. God got me (believe that),” Beckham wrote on his Instagram Story.

NFL Network noted that two of Beckham’s former teams, the Rams and Ravens, are in the playoff hunt. In theory, they would be the type of team looking to add veteran strength.

Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins this offseason that could be worth up to $8.25 million. In fact, it costs less money to join the AFC East roster than to go elsewhere.

However, as the No. 3 wide receiver — and, at best, the No. 5 option on offense — he hasn’t offered many opportunities.

Beckham has nine catches for 55 yards with zero touchdowns in nine games after missing the first four games due to an offseason procedure.

The former LSU star had four games with zero receptions and six games with no more than one catch, including Sunday’s win over the Jets in which he had one reception for one yard.

Fellow receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, tight end Jonnu Smith and running back De’Von Achane all played more prominent roles in Miami’s offensive plan.

Shortly after the news broke, Hill posted a cryptic message on X.

“Take your chance,” he wrote.

Now Beckham will see if he can keep up with a contender or if a team will want him for the roughly $200,000 left on his contract, according to NFL Network.

His departure from Miami continues a frustrating trend for Beckham since his last 1,000-yard season in 2020.

Beckham hasn’t managed to break 600 yards in a season since while battling injuries.

Last year with the Ravens, he caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three scores after signing a one-year, $15 million contract.

The twist is that Beckham may have a better chance of making the playoffs after leaving Miami, as the Dolphins (6-7) will need some help.

The Dolphins are two games behind the Chargers, Ravens and Broncos for the final wild card spot and enter Sunday’s game as slight underdogs.

Some around the NFL have wondered whether coach Mike McDaniel could be in the hot seat if things end “badly” for the Dolphins after they started the year with high expectations.
