Bronny James scores 30 points for South Bay

After a slow start to his professional career in both the Summer League and the NBA, rookie Bronny James – the son of superstar LeBron James – appears to be finding his feet with the South Bay Lakers of the G League.

In just his fourth contest with the team, James scored a team-high 30 points on 57% shooting, along with three rebounds, two assists and a block and a steal each. He hit three of his nine three-pointers, with the South Bay Lakers trailing the Valley Suns by just six points.

James also passed the eye test. He skied lobs, hit mid-range dribbles, used his physicality to get to the rim and even hit his first few G League 3-pointers of the season. With Thursday night’s fiery performance, James is now averaging 14 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for South Bay.

Thursday night’s game came after a 16-point performance in a win over the San Diego Clippers. Despite some inefficiency, James made an impact and finished with a plus-minus of +8 to win.

The solo performances and performances have boosted James’ overall confidence, but they’ve also proven that he generally belongs in the big leagues. When the Lakers selected him at No. 55, there were countless questions about his ability and whether he was truly ready for the NBA.

Now, James has proven through a handful of G League games that he is at least a project guard for the franchise. He only played seven games for Los Angeles, playing just 2.6 minutes per game and scoring 0.6 points.
